The Road Trip

The Road Trip
By:"Kathleen Graviano"
Published on 2011-07-29 by iUniverse

E-book Library:"Self-Help"

We all have a purpose in this life, but our purpose is not an end result. The journey from our first pitiful cry to our last breath and sigh—the challenging road trip that is life—is what brings us excitement, meaning, and lasting grace. In The Road Trip: A Travel Guide for Life’s Journey, teacher and author Kathleen Graviano shares the many lessons she has learned along life’s way and helps us discover the skills and attitudes to not only survive our journey but to actually enjoy the ride. While we might embark upon our lifelong road trip without a map or even a destination, Graviano gives us a guide for understanding both in her conversational, insightful style. Each chapter’s “travel-log” prompt asks us to relate these universal wisdoms to the twists and turns of our own experience, no matter where we are on the journey. At times, life will have us in the driver’s seat, cruising along, and at other times we will have to get out and push. How we learn from the good times, the bad times, and the eternal changes will determine whether we can eventually lean out the window and shout, “Wow—what a ride!”

Intelligent Transport Systems and Travel Behaviour
By:"Grzegorz Sierpiński"
Published on 2016-09-05 by Springer

E-book Library:"Computers"

Does application of countdown timers at traffic lights affect pedestrian safety? How can one model walking routes in transport systems using open source tools? What features should be particularly taken into account while implementing highly advanced ICT components in contemporary towns? What scenario for the development of Intelligent Transport Systems should be chosen for a specific area? How to estimate the impact of the substances emitted by vehicles on climate changes? Answers to these and many other questions can be found in this publication. It also comprises numerous analyses based on legitimate data sources, presenting the close relation between travel behaviours and the organisational as well as technical changes introduced in what is contemporarily referred as smart cities. At present and in the nearest future, technologically advanced transport systems require and will require considerable development of electromobility and the emphasis being placed on multimodality, therefore all these problems have been properly addressed in this publication. With regard to the research results discussed and the selected solutions which find practical application, the publication is dedicated to three groups of recipients: ·Scientists and researchers (ITS field) ·Local authorities (responsible for the transport system on the urban and the regional level) ·Representatives of business (traffic strategy management) and industry (manufacturers of ITS components). The publication entitled Intelligent Transport Systems and Travel Behaviour contains selected papers submitted to and presented at the 13th ”Transport Systems. Travelling Concepts

Travelling Concepts
By:"Christian Lammert","Katja Sarkowsky"

E-book Library:"Political Science"

Bhikhu Parekh As creative and reflective agents, human beings seek meaning in their lives, and develop more or less coherent views of the world or cultures in terms of which to organize their personal and collective lives. When different groups of individuals within the same society subscribe to different ways of thought, they face the crucial question of how to deal with their cultural diversity and sustain a shared common life. Premodern societies took a relatively relaxed view of diversity and generally opted for a looser union. Modernity brought with it a very different approach to the subject. This is reflected in, among other things, the institution of the modern state, especially the liberal democracy which represents one way of constituting it. Liberal democracy has exercised a decisive influence on our political and moral imagination for the past three centuries. Unlike premodern societies which took the community as their starting point and defined the individual in terms of it, it takes the individual as the ultimate and irreducible unit of, and thus conc- tually and ontologically prior to society. The latter is taken to consist of in- viduals, and refers to the totality of its members and their formal and informal relationships. Individual are the sole and equal sources of moral claims, and social and political institutions are judged in terms of their ability to safeguard and promote individual interests.

The Road Trip that Changed the World

The Road Trip that Changed the World
By:"Mark Sayers"
Published on 2012-05-01 by Moody Publishers

E-book Library:"Religion"

Can’t find no satisfaction? There’s no shortage of prescriptions for restlessness out there: Seek adventure. Live your life. Don’t hold back. Sound familiar? The Road Trip that Changed the World is a book challenging the contemporary conviction that personal freedom and self-fulfillment are the highest good. Like the characters in a Jack Kerouac novel, we’ve dirtied the dream of white picket fences with exhaust fumes. The new dream is the open road—and freedom. Yet we still desire the solace of faith. We like the concept of the sacred, but unwittingly subscribe to secularized, westernized spirituality. We’re convinced that there is a deeper plot to this thing called life, yet watered-down, therapeutic forms of religion are all we choose to swallow, and our personal story trumps any larger narrative. This is the non-committal culture of the road. Though driving on freely, we have forgotten where we’re headed. Jesus said His road is narrow. He wasn’t some aimless nomad. He had more than just a half tank of gas—He had passion, objectives, and a destination. Do you?
